On the first sunday of the season, Charles LeClerc swooped in from pole position to win the race. This does not mean that the race had no drama. In fact, quite the opposite happened. To start off with, LeClerc got a good start off of VER. The order behind him stayed mostly the same with VER, SAI, PER, and HAM. The first incident happened when OCO rammed into the back of MSC car causing him to spin. This sadly caused him to fall down quite the number of places. Pierre Gasly brought out the Safety Car when his AlphaTauri stopped in flames due to overheating. During the restart, LeClerc raced off into the distance while Verstappen was suffering a heavy wheel and couldn't keep up. Sainz took advantage of the situation and stole P2 for himself. Both PER and HAM followed. After the lap, the champion was forced to retire. During this HAM was right behind PER just as PER started to complain about engine issues. Sadly, his engine gave in on the last lap giving HAM that final podium place.
At the end, P1 went to LeClerc, P2 to Sainz, 3 to Hamilton, 4th to Russel, 5th to Magnussen, 6th to Bottas, 7th to Ocon, 8th to Tsunoda, 9th to Alonso, 10th to Zhou, 11th to Schumacher, 12th to Stroll, 13 to Albon, 14 to Ricciardo, 15 to Norris, 16 to Latifi, 17 to Hulkenberg, 18th 19th and 20th DNF'd.
